Som ni säkert vet är situationen i Beirut och Libanon usel. Förutom att landet står på gränsen till konkurs med galopperande inflation (nu 80%), en avskydd och paralyserad regering och halva befolkningen arbetslös så ”drabbades” Beirut av denna enorma explosion med ca 200 döda, flera tusen skadade och hundratusen bostadslösa – svårt att ens kunna föreställa sig.
Shatila och CYC skadades inte men man är rädda och förvirrade. När Coronan drabbade landet så klarade sig de palestinska lägren och de fattigaste libanesiska områden länge. Men skolorna blev stängda efter påbud från regeringen ( redan i oktober när de stora demonstrationerna mot regeringen startade). Efter stor vånda beslöt CYC till slut att ställa om all verksamhet på centret till skolundervisning – distansundervisning för de äldre och klassundervisning för de yngre (se bilder på faddershatila.se!) De gällde att rädda barnen från gatan, i de trånga hemmen gick det inte att stänga in dem. Föräldrarna erbjöds ett delat ansvar för detta brott mot skolstängningen med en skriftlig överenskommelse. Merparten av föräldrarna accepterade tacksamt och snart följde andra NGOer med. Skolverksamheten började efter Ramadan och pågick fram till det ordinarie sommarlovet nyligen. Något efterlängtat sommarläger blev det förstås inte, det går knappt att lämna lägret.
Men nu har covid19 tagit sig in i lägret och utöver att allt fler familjer har förlorat sin försörjning och inte ens har mat för dagen så har viruset slagit till och ” ”coronan gömmer sig i lägret för att folk skäms för att berätta”, som Abu Moujahed skriver i nedanstående mejl.

…we are passing a very difficult period, we don’t know what to do. Besides all Lebanese hell economical, social, political situation, corona virus start to become more serious in Lebanon and to the camps too. Although the WHO is saying it might be that the Swedish experience with Corona is the right one, still Lebanon is confused what to do, They want to lock down, but the people is starving. They want to close the schools, but the education from distance is not working. So we had special CYC meeting last Saturday to discuss what to do with the new Education year, We don’t have enough fund to cover the expenses, we can’t ask the parents to share, we can’t find sources now while everybody is busy with the Beirut Blast. We did not reach to a right answer. We decided to meet again after 8th Sept to see what is the final Governmental decision, after the lock down period finish on 7th Sept.
We are not able to keep closing CYC and we are not allowed to open. Corona in the camp is hidden, people feel embarresed to tell.
Financially CYC for first year is passing in difficult situation, everything became 5 times more expensive. The Lebanese currency lost value, and no jobs, no income. We are trying to ask the friends to help us, because every Dollar make a difference.We are trying to see donors and new supporters to minimize this gap.Thank you so much for the more support you managed to get this year, which is great to hear that.Here we are trying to minimize our expanses to the minimum we can. But still we have to pay the salaries, stationary, material, rent in Nar el Bared, children’s needs, maintenance, water, communication etc.We should struggle more, at the end with your siding us we should pass all the difficulties. [ ] I think that transferring money to Lebanon now is easier than before after Beirut explosion. Because US and Europe realized the size of Lebanon catastrophe. That is why all are trying under the slogan of sympathy and solidarity to take a piece of the Lebanese to themselves. But the French are in the front now. Today is there a 100 years since Lebanon state was created with the hungry French colonization after the Ottomans. Yesterday Mr. President of France came to share the Lebanese in their celebration, today with worse conditions than 100 years ago.
